Here is a recipe for making halal Lok Lak Cambodian at home:
Ingredients:
500g beef tenderloin, sliced into bite-sized pieces
1 tbsp oyster sauce
2 tbsp soy sauce
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 onion, sliced
2 tomatoes, sliced
Salt to taste
For the sauce:
2 tbsp lime juice
1 tbsp fish sauce
1 tbsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
For serving:
Steamed rice
Lettuce leaves
Sliced cucumbers
Sliced tomatoes
Fried egg (optional)
Instructions:
In a bowl, mix together oyster sauce, soy sauce, garlic, and black pepper. Add the sliced beef and toss to coat. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
In a small bowl, mix together lime juice, fish sauce, sugar, and salt. Set aside.
Heat a wok or a large pan over high heat. Add vegetable oil and swirl to coat. Add the beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove the beef from the wok and set aside.
In the same wok, add the sliced onions and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until softened. Add the sliced tomatoes and stir-fry for another minute until they start to break down.
Return the beef to the wok and stir-fry for another minute until heated through. Add salt to taste.
Serve the Lok Lak over steamed rice with lettuce leaves, sliced cucumbers, and sliced tomatoes on the side. You can also add a fried egg on top, if desired.
Drizzle the lime juice mixture over the Lok Lak before serving.
